Did you also know there are four calories per gram in Carbohydrates and protein, 7 calories in a gram of alcohol. What do all these things do for our body? Well in layman’s terms…. Carbohydrates could be likened to the wood on a fire; it provides us with energy. Simple carbohydrates such as cakes and fruit could be described as the small twigs on a fire, quick to burn out. They lack the vital minerals, vitamins and fibre to sustain our body. Rice, pasta, potatoes are known as complex carbohydrates. They take longer to burn and sustain our body for longer. Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose and used by the body. So why do we need fat then? Fat provides much needed energy. It would be very difficult to eat the large amounts of food in a very low fat diet and get all the energy you need. It also makes food taste less bland. Fat protects your organs, keeps you warm and helps your body absorb and move nutrients around. It also helps hormone production. Over centuries of evolution our body still hangs onto the fact that we may run out of food. So excess is stored on our bodies. Just in case the supermarkets run out, you’ve seen it in human behavior. They predict snow in the UK for a day and the shelves empty (just in case it’s actually the start of the new ice age)!! Protein can be thought of as the builder and building material for the body. Our body’s nerves, tissues, bones all are made up of proteins. So proteins become very necessary for them to grow and repair. You can think of them as your construction crew building, crafting and ensuring your body stays in the best state possible. So just to finish it off here are a few top tips with food. Fruits are great but they are still sugar so they can play havoc with your insulin levels. Eat the skins of apples, pears etc. The skin helps the body break it down more slowly making your body burn more energy in the process. An average apple can contain something like 90 calories, it may take 110 calories to digest it skin and all, therefore a negative calorie loss of 20 calories just from eating! In theory a pound of body fat equates to around 3500 calories Don’t overcook you vegetables for the same reason, if you overcook them they are already starting to break down before they’ve even hit the stomach. Again it makes the body work harder. Make sure you drink water regularly, thirst can sometimes be misinterpreted as hunger. A healthy diet and regular exercise, which doesn’t have to be in a gym, can have some amazing results. I have worked with a number of groups last year where the participants have eaten healthy and exercised regularly often more than before and lost not only weight but also changed their body shape considerably. Let’s work on making our nation of convenience into a national of confident individuals, proud of who they are and what they’ve achieved, by just going back to the basics. Well we didn’t have five gold rings last year but the five rings that featured heavily in the news definitely brought a lot of golds home to the Great British team. How do they achieve such amazing feats of athleticism and stamina? Well generally a lot of hard work and a great support team around them. Do you have to be a top athlete or celebrity to have that type of help? The answer is definitely NO. There are Personal Trainers, Sports Therapists, Hypnotherapists and sports coaches all around your area. You just have to Google these days to find them or ask for a recommendation from a friend or family member. I am trained in all three which allows me to take someone from maybe an unfit, unmotivated or even unsure to wherever their hearts and minds want to lead them. I like to think of myself as a stepping-stone helping them along the way. If I can’t help I will always try to recommend someone who can. If you would like a helping hand along that path, why not give me a call and see if I can help you on your journey. As Lao Tzu said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Becky www.BeckyWells.com + 44 07801 941949 becky@beckywells.com First day of appointments in the New Year, up bright and early seeing my first client at 7:30am. After my first appointment I headed off from Burgess Hill cross country to Horsham to train the team from the West Sussex magazine ETC and County Times magazine. Luckily they are a very enthusiast group, which always makes my job easier. Although I don't think I'll ever be able to think about Rhinos in the same way again, thanks to Mark Dunsford!! My mission now is to give Simon Robb the washboard abs he desires for the summer. So can hypnotherapy help with fitness and weight loss? The answer is yes in a lot of cases. I have worked with a number of people in the past couple of years by changing their habits through hypnotherapy. For example by hypnotising them to stop eating chocolate and sweet stuff, stopping comfort eating, and so on. The list is endless. I offer a combination of hypnotherapy and fitness advice which is combination that will help to change your mind, change your habits and change your life. Other exciting news is that the Pay it a Forward bands have arrived, all 5000 of them. If you have an idea for a Pay it Forward let me know, If I can help I will. Why not drop me a line? I love to hear your comments Becky becky@beckywells.com www.BeckyWells.com With all the colds and coughs around I think I should wish everyone a speedy return to full health and fitness. I was just sitting down and wondering where the last 10 days went. One minute it's Christmas Eve and the next everyone is talking about going back to work. I had good intentions to get lots done, good intentions unfortunately did not translate into actions until now! I love to be organised in my work, so I have spent the last two days updating my accounts, filing paperwork and clearing the build-up of post-it notes! Have you ever wondered what hypnotherapy may help with? Here's just a few of them, each day I'll add a few more the list. Being More Confident Be More Outgoing Blushing Confidence Increasing Self Esteem A lot of people wonder if they can be hypnotised? All I will say to you is - have you been driving and wondered how you got to a certain place without remembering the middle part of the journey? Your subconscious mind was fully in control, it's an amazing part of us which controls things we do without us having to be consciously aware of it! Do you wonder if hypnotherapy can help you? Drop me a line or call and ask me. I would love to hear from you. becky@beckwells.com 07801 941949 www.beckywells.com No, not because it’s bonfire night. But because it’s the day I bought two dresses. Believe me that is unusual. I am the jean buying, fleece girl, usually happier in a pair of wellies, a waterproof jacket and the warmest clothing available that will keep my kidneys warm. It was just like the scene from Narnia as I stepped through the wardrobe (well the door). The dresses said “buy me” and I even found myself accessorising in my head. Shoes, necklace….oh my god HELP!!!!
Last week was the witch week. So I put my creative skills to use carving a pumpkin into a Jack Skeleton. We also hosted two Aqua Halloween sessions at the Triangle in Burgess Hill. The pool was full of witches, warlocks, skeletons and ghouls. A fantastic day and evening and we raised £50 for the WalkingMatildausa.com charity. On Friday I popped over to see one of my clients, a young footballing star. He had been chosen to play for his team against Chelsea and had asked for a hypnotherapy session to help him focus on his goal scoring. Then on Sunday I received a text from his Mum saying that the team had won 2–0 and he’d scored the goals. I look forward to seeing him in his first Premiership match one day. Most of the top footballers have their own personal psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and sports therapy team. On Saturday we went to see ‘Chicago’ at the Hawth starring Bernie Nolan and a host of other TV celebrities. What an amazing woman carrying on performing after announcing she has incurable cancer. I take my hat of to her and hope from the bottom of heart that a cure becomes available soon. “Never give up hope it’s usually the last key on the bunch that unlocks the door” This morning, as usual, I headed off for my Monday morning coffee at the New York coffee shop in East Grinstead. The Andre’s are another family that I have the greatest respect for. Danny is a lovely guy who always has time for his customers, as do the other brothers that I have had the honour to meet. I hope his brother Andrew is able to take cancer, shove it in a rocket and send it to the moon and beyond this time round. What is planned for this week? I have a real mixture of hypnotherapy and personal training to keep me busy. Friday this week I’m off to see ‘Girls Night Out’ at the Hawth in Crawley starring Krys O’Brien and four others. I can feel the need to warm up my singing vocals for that night! So take your earplugs if you are going too. Have a great week and keep the cold at bay by wrapping up warm. Today, as always, I talked with some great people. If you look carefully you can sometimes see the sadness behind their eyes. When someone talks to you next time, listen not only with your ears but also your eyes and heart. You might just change that person’s day. What have I been up to? Last week I was invited up to London to experience two treatments that I had never experienced before. The first was a session with David Jarvis from www.thinkpossible.co.uk. David is a movement therapist with clinics in Central and West London. He works with clients who suffer from long-term pain, who have been unable to find a solution after seeing the usual therapists. It’s an amazing concept using movement adjustment of the whole body rather than just a specific area and it’s used when treating an injury to achieve a long-term solution to pain. I was amazed after just an hour how different my body felt and how my range of movement was increased. The second session was an Ayurvedic consultation and body massage. An ancient treatment that I notice in the media the Duchess of Cornwall is trying when she recuperates in India. It’s based on an ancient Indian healing system. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was so relaxed I have no idea how I stayed awake on the train home. Jamie Chalmers, the owner of Rasyana Ayurvedic www.rasayana.co.uk, sent a report about me the following day. I discovered that my Dosha (one of three bodily humors that make up one's constitution) was Pitta (controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production) and I scored 21 on my Sattvic (pure mind) score. Apparently one of the highest scores he’d ever seen. I can recommend both experiences if you are based in or visiting London or Edinburgh. Today I met up with a lovely lady called Lindsay who, along with the rest of her family, is raising money for Matilda, their two-year-old daughter who has cerebral palsy. She can have an operation to help her walk if they can raise £70,000. I have donated a crystal for them to auction later in the year and will continue to help them until they reach their goal. Their website is www.walkingmatildausa.com. Every penny helps. I look forward to seeing Matilda in her sparkly shoes once she’s had the operation. What’s planned for the rest of the week? Well I have two Halloween aqua parties lined up on Wednesday that will hopefully raise money for Matilda. Who knows what other mischief I’ll get up to? It’s the week for ghosts, ghouls and little gremlins like me! Of course on Wednesday night I’ll be busy on my broomstick! Happy Halloween everyone, stay safe if you’re trick or treating. Tulley's farm has put a lot of effort into providing entertainment for all at their spooktacular event that runs for two weeks of the year. I recommend it if you haven't been. Jonathan Ross was there enjoying it the other day. Not sure if I consider him more scary than the attractions! My Kung Fu training is going well, I guess it helps having a 1:1 instructor. I love the challenge of learning the next section each week. Hypnotherapy can help you with fear of the unknown, or to help improve your sporting performance using techniques like visualisation, focusing and relaxation. I also think it's so important to link with other professionals. One of the things I have tried to do in the last few months is meet up with others in Sussex and London. A good network is such an important asset to any business. I was also impressed to find I had made an appearance in Glamour Magazine November 2012 issue on page 298, a feature with Matt Roberts and the So what's on the agenda next week? I am off to meet a couple of health professionals in London. If I like what I find,! I am hoping be able to refer clients to them over the coming months where appropriae. I've also been given the opportunity to try an Ayurvedic treatment. I'm looking forward to experiencing it. Not for me. I headed up to central London to become part of the Matt Roberts team, massaging VIPs after their 13 mile run round the great parks in London. Luckily the weather gods provided the perfect running conditions. Not too hot, but a gorgeous sunny day. Trees with their autumnal colours looking like they’d been brushed on by a rainbow. Bright and early I headed up to London hoping that the security guard would have my name on the list, luckily it was. So who did I get to meet? Well the first person I bumped into was Ben Fogle, a lovely guy who you can’t help but slightly swoon over with that sexy voice and rugged good looks, his wife is stunning as well and what a lovely couple. I heard earlier in the day that Matt Roberts was there leading a group of kids like a pied piper. So with my massage thumbs switched on, a steady stream on VIPs came onto the couches from 11am until we stopped around 2pm. Celebrity runners this year included Katherine Jenkins, Jenni Falconer, Sophie Raworth, and Adam Woodyatt (Ian from Eastenders). I am most proud of Team Glamour from the Condé Nast Magazine group. I started working with a group from their editorial staff earlier in the year when most hadn’t even started to run. I felt like a proud Mum as they all came into the tent after completing their run. I would happily work with any of them again and they were raising money for a great cause, MIND, a charity involved in mental health problems. It was definitely worth getting up bright and early to say I was part of this amazing experience and I would happily give up another day in the future if the opportunity arose. What’s planned for this week? Tomorrow I’m off for my third Kung Fu 1:1 session. I absolutely love it. I started to learn 15 years ago but work got in the way. Now as I am my own boss I can give myself time off to go! Have a great week and don’t forget to ‘Pay it Forward’ if you get the chance. Well it’s certainly been a week of ups and downs. I was beginning to feel like I’d been attached to a yo-yo. The week started off with a trip up to London, only to be told my client didn’t realise they were booked in! So I made use of the time and explore London on foot by walking back from Knightsbridge to Victoria. It’s surprising how close everything really is when you start walking. Also on a sad note for me, I lost a family pet, who had become a large part of the Wells family life. I think you only realise how much they affect you when they’re not there anymore. There’s that glance when you move the chair so as not to catch them with it, or that moment as you go to say goodbye as you walk out the door and you remember he’s not there. Who’s going to tidy the slippers left on the floor now! I was lucky enough to have had the honour to share his life and for that I will always be grateful. So what else have I been up to? This week saw me taking my second one-to-one lesson in Kung Fu with the Kung Fu School Crawley. Dave, my instructor, is very patient. I have learnt so much in the first couple of sessions. For me it’s a great new hobby. Kung Fu translates to ‘achievement of man’. It’s helping me focus on the fact that with time and energy, anything can be achieved. You may be wondering what all this has to do with hypnotherapy or the other work that I do? Hypnotherapy is one of many therapies that can help you through the stages of loss. Having someone to talk to when everything seems against you, is like trying to jump that eight foot wall but never quite reaching it, until a friendly pair of hands gives you a lift over. Learning to relax and live in the moment, rather than dwelling on a past that cannot be changed, can be a life changing experience. Let’s see what October’s got in store for us apart from Ghosts and Ghouls… Oh and of course my yearly trip out on my broomstick on the 31st! For hypnotherapy, sports massage and personal training appointments please contact me via any of the details below. I look forward to hearing from you. Becky Director - Becky Wells Limited Ground Floor, No 2 Harley Street London W1 United Kingdom Website: www.BeckyWells.com Twitter: @beckyjoewells Contact telephone number +44 7801 941949 Subscribe to my newsletters at http://eepurl.com/n8Svf After a lovely ten-day break in Florida, I now feel thoroughly recharged and ready to take up my pen and paper. There is nothing like swimming with thousands of fish, rays and sharks to make you realise how close we really are to nature, or riding a coaster which takes you through various g-forces! Where is your favourite place to relax? Some may find it’s the beach, others a room in their own home. When I see clients for hypnotherapy I use their favourite resting place to increase their relaxed state. My favourite is a sandy beach with my toes just by the edge of the water and the waves almost tickling my toes as they’re gently drawn back into the sea. Do you find it hard to relax? Hypnotherapy can show you how to relax. I work with many individuals who, due to work stress, home stress or just plan stress, just can’t relax. Their bodies just go into a vicious circle. They are unable to sleep due to thoughts in their heads, then unable to work effectively due to insomnia. Hypnotherapy can help put them back in control of their thoughts. Most people I’ve seen for hypnotherapy say they get the best night’s sleep ever following the session. You’d think I’d not been up to much else whilst lazing on loungers and riding rollercoasters. Bet while I was away and after email conversations with Charley Johnson, the President of the Global Pay it Forward Foundation, (www.pifexperience.org) I have now set up a ‘Pay it Forward’ UK group. What is ‘Pay it Forward’? Years ago I watched a film called ‘Pay it Forward’. It was based on a true story of a social studies class that was set an assignment to change the world. One of the young class members decided his project was to be to ‘Pay it Forward’. Do a good deed for three people and instead of expecting a reward you ask them each to ‘Pay it Forward’ to three more people and so it continues like a small ripple getting bigger and bigger. Charley Johnson has taken it one step further by offering a bracelet as a reminder of the deed; we will have 10,000 of these in the UK soon. If you are an individual or a company interested in sponsoring the bracelets in the UK please contact me through my web page www.payitforwarduk.net Don’t forget to let us know your PIF experience when giving and receiving apart from the web page you can also follow us on twitter at https://twitter.com/payitforwarduk Don’t forget to use hashtag #pifuk when tweeting about your ‘Pay it Forward’ experience or email us at payitforwarduk@beckywells.com. What’s in the diary for my first week back? On Monday I’m taking up a new hobby, I’ll leave it till the next blog to tell you all about that. I’m off to see five new personal training clients in Knightsbridge on Monday evening. Then Thursday hopefully will be meeting up with one of the board members from the Pay It Forward foundation.
