A day off from the madness

Picture
I felt a bit like the person from that old TV series ‘Butterflies’ today.  Moving cars on and off the drive. Drive one car to one place then get a lift to move another one. But the end result is I have a newer car than I started with, a car I absolutely love.

I have no idea where the day went though. I started out at 9:30 this morning playing car draughts and finished around 3:30. So much for my plan to take him out for a lovely drive today. Oh well, there's always next week.

How do you like to spend your days off? Playing sports? Going out to theatres?

Maybe you’d like to take up a new hobby but don’t have the confidence to do so.

Give me a call I may be able to help in that department.

Anyway I’m off to carry on driving like ‘Miss Daisy’ in my new car. I’ve called him Rory.

I look forward to hearing all about your hobbies and leisure pastimes.

Not an ‘if’, but a ‘when’ please

30/1/2013

Such a small word, but it can make a huge difference to how you go about your daily life.  For example “if I go out and talk to that chairman of the local women’s group, I may create a whole new network of links”.  In comparison to “When I go and see the Chairman, I will form new networks”.

The self-doubting “if” is like a little nagging gremlin on your shoulder saying ‘what if they don’t like me; what if I can’t answer the questions they throw at me?’.

I always go with the ”when”.  ‘When’ I go to that meeting I know that I have a great foundation of knowledge from inspirational sources. I do not know everything and I know I am not expected to. I like my head to be small enough to still fit through a doorway.  I also go there expecting to absorb more information from those I meet to make me an even better therapist.

In the career I have chosen I always expect to learn, and I don’t mean from textbooks or courses.

Take time to observe the people you work with, my job is never going to be 9-5 and to be honest. I’d have no idea what to do with my spare time if that was the case.

Be a listener… be a ‘When’ person… not an ‘if’ person.

I look forward to bumping into you ‘When’ our paths cross because I know they will.

Maybe I should be a politician

29/1/2013

On this blustery January day, we see that we are being made to change a word on a fruit juice packet, probably because a committee in Europe thought it would be fun to change it. Who actually cares whether it says ‘made with’ or ‘made from’ except for the people who probably made an absolute fortune doing a 2-year study into the use of the word? Who would have actually taken any notice of it or cared?

Why do we not commit our energy to making positive change to people’s long term lives, helping them to change how they feel about their community, their country and their world?

What would I like to change if I was in politics? Health and wellbeing, not a study into the number of bubbles from a fizzy drinks bottle that end up tickling your nose but a study into how our communities already (yes I said already) have amazing untapped networks which, if promoted and encouraged to grow, can create so much happiness, health and well being. Funnily enough, just like the old days. Have you ever noticed how on snowy days it’s so much easier to talk to people on the street and ‘break the ice’ so to speak?

People don’t want or need to be told what to do, look at all the ‘Pay it Forward’s and random acts of kindness that happen in communities.

They don’t have a higher authority setting guidelines, they just put a request out to the local community and they come together, every creed, age, religion working together because they know it will make a lasting positive influence on the people’s hearts and lives that they touch.

So if a politician is allowed to listen and act on the local community, change the world with kindness and make the world a healthier place for body and mind, then I’m in. If it’s to decide if the colour red is really red, then I’m washing my hair!

Have you made a difference with kindness? Do you want too? I do and I am, as often as I can.

Let me know on my website www.payitforwarduk.net

Have a great day

It’s a bug’s life

I always feel like one of the ants in 'Bug’s Life' when I head up to Central London like I did today. We all pile out of the train, follow a set route down the platform, back down another set of steps, down the escalators and into a shuttle which sees us doing this all in reverse.

If your tube stop is suddenly closed, you see people’s anxiety levels rise before they head off on another, yet untested, route.

A bit like life really? We go to school until 16 or 18, then maybe higher education or straight into work. How can most of us know, when we choose our life’s destiny at 16, what we really want to do? Some may, but a lot of people I speak to say “I trained and worked in this job for 20 years or more”.  'Are you happy' will be my next question?  'No' is quite frequently the answer.

Now in 'Bugs Life', he dares to live his dream and head off to the unknown.  Now I am not saying give up safety or security. What I am saying is go and explore other options. Maybe you’re that person with low self esteem that wants to do a job that requires you to stand up and be heard or wants to lose weight to take up that dream hobby or holiday location. Hypnotherapy allows you, in a safe and secure environment, to explore what your inner self is really like, and unlocks newfound exciting parts of you, that have been subdued by your conscious mind. You will probably find, like most of my clients, they have some great conversations with yourself under hypnosis.

So if you want a hand stepping of the treadmill of life, even if you use it just as form of relaxation from your everyday life, call me. You never know, you might find like many, that you open yourself up to a whole new career, I did.

Take a leaf out of Flik’s book from Bug’s life. Who knows, the world may discover it’s next Picasso, Hugh Grant or Raymond Blanc just by you allowing it a glimpse into the real you.

A century or two in the making

It was great to have the family together today for my parents’ wedding anniversary. What stood out for me was the age range of those in the room.  We had the latest addition to the family who is now 6 months old and will be taking the new generation into the 22nd century no doubt, then my Nan who at 97, can tell you all about things that have happened in the last century. So in the room we have history makers that between them will cover around 200 years, maybe more, as we are living so much longer these days.

I wonder how they will look back at us in the year 2013 in 20-30 years time? We look at fashion and laugh and the following year you find we’re all wearing it.

What about therapies, just a few years ago people thought you only went to see a therapist if you had a serious mental health issue. Now we have come to realise it’s much better to get it sorted before it gets out of hand.

As the advert always said “it’s good to talk”.

I have found that a big percentage of my work in the exercise industry relied on listening to the individual in front of me and as well as changing their exercise habits, it was just as important to change the way they felt about themselves.

If you want a programme that changes you inside and out, give me a call.

Are you a ‘Tofi’?

26/1/2013

How many times have you envied those skinny individuals that walk past you on the street and who can eat anything without getting fat? Yes we all know one, I am guessing.

So what’s a TOFI? Thin outside fat inside, as quoted by Dr Jimmy Bell, a professor at Imperial College London.

According to his research people who ‘look’ the ideal weight can still suffer from the same medical conditions as those who are overweight.

Because they think they are ok, they may eat too many fatty or sugary foods, which the body then stores around the belly first.

So how can I get rid of internal fat? That’s the easy one. All you have to do is change your diet and ensure you have a good exercise regime.

In my Personal Training role I take a group of individuals of different shapes and fitness levels and devise the best exercise programme for them.

Combine this with my hypnotherapy skills and you get an amazing all round package where not only does the exercise change your body, but the hypnotherapy helps you to kick those negative habits once and for all.

Get in touch, if you want to change your mind, change you life and change your future.

Dali, Monet…. ?

25/1/2013

Picture
I wonder if the type of art we love is linked to the person that we are? I absolutely love Salvador Dali’s work, my favourite painting is the ‘Persistence of Memory’. Even if you haven’t heard of this you’ve probably seen it. The clock is melted over a twig. Lots of gadget shops have been selling these clocks this year.

I love surreal but understandable images. Maybe this is how my subconscious feels to me sometimes.

What is your favourite artist? Can you link that to how you feel within yourself?

Do you have an emotion you just can’t get the better of? Can you describe it as a piece of artwork? Consider hypnotherapy, it helps the subconscious mind take control again.

It may sound strange but you’d be surprised what a painting can tell me.

I am quite a visual person so painting a picture in my mind of what I see helps me to lead you to your own easel to paint your new and positive future.

Unleash the artist within and give me a call.

But I never felt ill...

24/1/2013

Picture
How many times have you heard someone say, I wasn’t ill until...?  There are a lot of medical conditions that silently hide within us, until they escape out with a potential fatal effect one day.

Oh yes but I’m fine I hear you say.  Let’s take high blood pressure for example. You can’t join most gyms without having a reading. Doctors’ surgeries and many pharmacies offer regular checks for you.

‘But it’s only high blood pressure’. I wonder if you know that high blood pressure is known as “the silent killer”. It increases your risk of having cardiovascular problems such as strokes, heart attacks or other serious cardiac conditions.

So what’s this got to do with what I do in my life?

For many years now I have worked with people who have come to me to due to an increased blood pressure reading and other cardiac related conditions. They are referred by their GPs to me for moderate exercise, which has been proven to reduce blood pressure.

More recently I have been working with individuals using hypnotherapy.  How can hypnotherapy help?  It can teach you the art of relaxation. Making you able to stay calm and in control of a situation just by using the power of your own breath.

Sometimes I feel like I should start lunchtime hypno-bytes, lunchtime hypnotherapy for high-powered executives in Central London.  Almost like a power nap.  Their afternoon deals would benefit from a refreshed subconscious mind.

So have your blood pressure checked regularly and listen to the advice from the professionals. If your employer, doctor’s surgery or local  gym offers you a health check make use of the service. It might just save your life.

For information on hypnotherapy, personal training or sports massage therapy give me a call.

Grab your friends, let’s go out and have a game of hide and seek

23/1/2013

I was listening to the local radio station this morning and they were talking about how, as we get older, we lose that childhood magic that encourages us to go out rollerskating, playing hide and seek in the local woods and leap frogging over the bollards.

The radio station said ‘we all feel as we get old we need to grow up’. Someone forgot to tell me.  Some of my friends see me as a 21st century Peter Pan. Does that bother me? No. I’m pleased.  I hope that having magic in my life gives people a sprinkle of fairy dust to go and do the same.

I went out rollerskating the other day with a friend and felt the same excitement that I did 20 years ago.  If my friends’ kids ask me to play hide and seek, I am the first to climb in the washing basket to hide.

That Peter Pan spirit is what has lead me on my amazing journey. How many of you have wished upon that second star to the right?  I wished, I flew and I’ve been there and done that and I’ll probably head back to Neverland several times this year taking a few friends along the way.

So if you want to go a round of ‘follow my leader’ with me, let me unlock your inner child. Mine is an Elf and a cheeky one at that.

So grab my hand, a quick sprinkle of Tinkerbell’s dust, and we’ll be off.

Deal or no Deal?

22/1/2013

I was sitting watching the TV this evening and was struck by the number of shows that put pressure on the contestants to just go one more round further.  ‘Exploiting people’s emotions’ I hear some of you say! ‘Isn’t that just like life’, I hear others say.

It got me thinking about how many times in life we take these types of risk anyway. A lot of the time I would guess!

How many times have you bought something unseen from the Internet because the offer seems so good, or maybe you’ve changed careers from a well-paid job to a voluntary or low income job?

Was it a risk? Maybe? Yes? Probably? But does this stop you?

I decided several years ago that life is worth living to its fullest. When I was 18 I had major surgery on my back, which prevented me from doing what I thought was my dream job.

Once I’d got myself back to full fitness, both physically and mentally, I realised I could do anything I like, if I put my mind to it.

I also chose to resign from a well-paid government job and take up a job that paid half what I was getting. Now after several years, I have the most amazing career and I get to do something I love, helping others.

Ten to fifteen years ago therapy was seen as something strange and maybe to some it still is. Personally I would never be afraid of going to see a therapist if I had worries. In fact the hypnotherapy register I belong to actively encourages its members to have regular sessions with other therapists.

If you’re sitting there juggling two metaphorical boxes in front of you, why not give me a call to see if I can help you.
