![]() In the last week or so I've spoken to a lot of people who have suffered from, or are going through some form of depression. One of the biggest things that came across is they don’t want sympathy. What they often want is just an ear to listen. Depression can feel like the loneliest place in the world. You can be in a room full of people, hiding behind a mask of smiles and laughter, but inside feeling like a person trapped on a desert island not knowing which way to escape. So as a friend how can we help? It’s not always easy to know if someone is depressed. Hiding behind ‘a happy mask’ is something that depressed people I have spoken to have told me that they do. Take five minutes with all your friends for an extra chat. It can sometimes help them to lift the mask up and let their feelings surface. Acknowledge. Chat with your friend. Say you’ve noticed they’ve been a bit quiet lately. Give them reassurance that you’re there for them when they’re ready to talk. Don't pretend it's not there or that it is not a serious condition. It can be very debilitating for the person involved. A comment like this can make them feel even more insignificant and that people aren’t taking their problem seriously. Don’t bring up their problems in front of other people. It can be very damaging to your friendship and to them. Sometimes it's just about listening. Listening without judgement or giving advice. Don’t see crying as a weakness. The person involved would like nothing better than to feel happy again and be themselves. Never call a problem stupid or tell them that it is nothing to worry about. It may stop them talking to others also, leading to a potentially even worse situation. The important thing is to be there. Be genuine, don’t lie to them. Don’t tell them things and not really mean them. A hug or simple ‘I’m here for you, if that’s okay’. Tell them how much you value their friendship and that you care about their life. Depression makes people feel worthless and not needed. Be there to reassure that person that they really matter and that you want to help. Don't be afraid to help them find the right help they need. ![]() How’s everybody’s week been? I hope you’ve had a good one. As usual I’ve had a fun filled one, never quite knowing what’s round the corner type of week. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I promised myself a long time ago if I didn’t like something I’d change it. I also made a promise to myself that I would not judge what I hear from others. Sometimes I go and get things wrong but all I put that down to is a new life lesson. I like to think of my life as on a quite squiggly line, always going to get somewhere, sometimes taking the strangest route on the way. Isn’t that the fun of it though? Have a fantastic weekend. If you get the chance to do something different, grab it with both hands and go along for the ride, barefoot if you like. So what if you get muddy feet? Becky www.beckywells.com 07801 941949 becky@beckywells.com ![]() On this blustery January day, we see that we are being made to change a word on a fruit juice packet, probably because a committee in Europe thought it would be fun to change it. Who actually cares whether it says ‘made with’ or ‘made from’ except for the people who probably made an absolute fortune doing a 2-year study into the use of the word? Who would have actually taken any notice of it or cared? Why do we not commit our energy to making positive change to people’s long term lives, helping them to change how they feel about their community, their country and their world? What would I like to change if I was in politics? Health and wellbeing, not a study into the number of bubbles from a fizzy drinks bottle that end up tickling your nose but a study into how our communities already (yes I said already) have amazing untapped networks which, if promoted and encouraged to grow, can create so much happiness, health and well being. Funnily enough, just like the old days. Have you ever noticed how on snowy days it’s so much easier to talk to people on the street and ‘break the ice’ so to speak? People don’t want or need to be told what to do, look at all the ‘Pay it Forward’s and random acts of kindness that happen in communities. They don’t have a higher authority setting guidelines, they just put a request out to the local community and they come together, every creed, age, religion working together because they know it will make a lasting positive influence on the people’s hearts and lives that they touch. So if a politician is allowed to listen and act on the local community, change the world with kindness and make the world a healthier place for body and mind, then I’m in. If it’s to decide if the colour red is really red, then I’m washing my hair! Have you made a difference with kindness? Do you want too? I do and I am, as often as I can. Let me know on my website www.payitforwarduk.net Have a great day Becky For more information CLICK For bookings CLICK www.beckywells.com 07801 941949 becky@beckywells.com ![]() How many of you have stuck to your New Years resolutions? In fact how many of you actually made any? Were your resolutions to further yourself or to help others? I was just looking through comments on Facebook this weekend. A lot of people are quick to judge and very few offer alternative solutions. Have you ever thought about being part of the answer rather than leaving it to someone else. This weekend I watched a ‘YouTube’ video about a group of guys who whilst drinking at a bar used the offer of a beer and pizza to feed the homeless on the beach. They still got to enjoy their afternoon and also spread kindness to the less fortunate. I know in February a group are going to pack bags and take them out to the homeless in London. But my challenge to you is for the next time you walk past a homeless person. Just remember they are human beings, they just lost their way at some point, and don’t pity them, they don’t want this. If you can help, maybe by leaving them one of your unused blankets or a food parcel, you’d be surprised what a difference you could make. It’s turning wintery soon, that extra blanket or food might just make those freezing temperatures a little more bearable! As the saying goes “Be the change you want to see in the world.”- Gandhi So my resolution is to be part of the change, I want to be there as it grows from this small acorn to a mighty oak! Becky www.BeckyWells.com / www.payitforwarduk.net 07801 941949 Becky@beckywells.com ![]() With all the colds and coughs around I think I should wish everyone a speedy return to full health and fitness. I was just sitting down and wondering where the last 10 days went. One minute it's Christmas Eve and the next everyone is talking about going back to work. I had good intentions to get lots done, good intentions unfortunately did not translate into actions until now! I love to be organised in my work, so I have spent the last two days updating my accounts, filing paperwork and clearing the build-up of post-it notes! Have you ever wondered what hypnotherapy may help with? Here's just a few of them, each day I'll add a few more the list. Being More Confident Be More Outgoing Blushing Confidence Increasing Self Esteem A lot of people wonder if they can be hypnotised? All I will say to you is - have you been driving and wondered how you got to a certain place without remembering the middle part of the journey? Your subconscious mind was fully in control, it's an amazing part of us which controls things we do without us having to be consciously aware of it! Do you wonder if hypnotherapy can help you? Drop me a line or call and ask me. I would love to hear from you. becky@beckwells.com 07801 941949 www.beckywells.com Do we ever really stop and listen to the people around us or are we just so involved in our own lives that we just don’t have the time? Today, as always, I talked with some great people. If you look carefully you can sometimes see the sadness behind their eyes. When someone talks to you next time, listen not only with your ears but also your eyes and heart. You might just change that person’s day. What have I been up to? Last week I was invited up to London to experience two treatments that I had never experienced before. The first was a session with David Jarvis from www.thinkpossible.co.uk. David is a movement therapist with clinics in Central and West London. He works with clients who suffer from long-term pain, who have been unable to find a solution after seeing the usual therapists. It’s an amazing concept using movement adjustment of the whole body rather than just a specific area and it’s used when treating an injury to achieve a long-term solution to pain. I was amazed after just an hour how different my body felt and how my range of movement was increased. The second session was an Ayurvedic consultation and body massage. An ancient treatment that I notice in the media the Duchess of Cornwall is trying when she recuperates in India. It’s based on an ancient Indian healing system. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was so relaxed I have no idea how I stayed awake on the train home. Jamie Chalmers, the owner of Rasyana Ayurvedic www.rasayana.co.uk, sent a report about me the following day. I discovered that my Dosha (one of three bodily humors that make up one's constitution) was Pitta (controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production) and I scored 21 on my Sattvic (pure mind) score. Apparently one of the highest scores he’d ever seen. I can recommend both experiences if you are based in or visiting London or Edinburgh. Today I met up with a lovely lady called Lindsay who, along with the rest of her family, is raising money for Matilda, their two-year-old daughter who has cerebral palsy. She can have an operation to help her walk if they can raise £70,000. I have donated a crystal for them to auction later in the year and will continue to help them until they reach their goal. Their website is www.walkingmatildausa.com. Every penny helps. I look forward to seeing Matilda in her sparkly shoes once she’s had the operation. What’s planned for the rest of the week? Well I have two Halloween aqua parties lined up on Wednesday that will hopefully raise money for Matilda. Who knows what other mischief I’ll get up to? It’s the week for ghosts, ghouls and little gremlins like me! Of course on Wednesday night I’ll be busy on my broomstick! Happy Halloween everyone, stay safe if you’re trick or treating. Why not book an appointment with me at my Harley Street clinic or in one of my clinics down in Sussex. I was beginning to feel like I’d been attached to a yo-yo. The week started off with a trip up to London, only to be told my client didn’t realise they were booked in! So I made use of the time and explore London on foot by walking back from Knightsbridge to Victoria. It’s surprising how close everything really is when you start walking. Also on a sad note for me, I lost a family pet, who had become a large part of the Wells family life. I think you only realise how much they affect you when they’re not there anymore. There’s that glance when you move the chair so as not to catch them with it, or that moment as you go to say goodbye as you walk out the door and you remember he’s not there. Who’s going to tidy the slippers left on the floor now! I was lucky enough to have had the honour to share his life and for that I will always be grateful. So what else have I been up to? This week saw me taking my second one-to-one lesson in Kung Fu with the Kung Fu School Crawley. Dave, my instructor, is very patient. I have learnt so much in the first couple of sessions. For me it’s a great new hobby. Kung Fu translates to ‘achievement of man’. It’s helping me focus on the fact that with time and energy, anything can be achieved. You may be wondering what all this has to do with hypnotherapy or the other work that I do? Hypnotherapy is one of many therapies that can help you through the stages of loss. Having someone to talk to when everything seems against you, is like trying to jump that eight foot wall but never quite reaching it, until a friendly pair of hands gives you a lift over. Learning to relax and live in the moment, rather than dwelling on a past that cannot be changed, can be a life changing experience. Let’s see what October’s got in store for us apart from Ghosts and Ghouls… Oh and of course my yearly trip out on my broomstick on the 31st! For hypnotherapy, sports massage and personal training appointments please contact me via any of the details below. I look forward to hearing from you. I was surprised how many people hadn't when I started to talk about it. It is basically about how one good deed deserves another but rather than returning the good deed to the same person, you suggest they do a good deed for someone else. Therefore you 'Pay it Forward'.
Little did I know until the other day that there is a 'Pay it Forward' Foundation. When I described how I'd done such a deed and tweeted about it. I was amazed and extremely honoured to get a message from Charley Johnson, the head of the pif foundation www.pifexperience.org. Let's get 'pif' rippling out across the UK. Just make one kind gesture and watch the ripple grow! Things have been steady growing work-wise and I can't believe it's been two months since I started the company! I'm looking into setting up a training branch at the moment and I have a meeting set up to discuss international clinics. I already have two people on a waiting list even though it's still only a thought in my head at the moment. There are lots of hypnotherapy clients booked in this week. I think they are all trying to squeeze in before my holiday! What's planned for the rest of the week? Thursday I'm up at my Harley Street clinic. Some of the Glamour magazine team are booked in for sports massage as their weekly mileage increases in preparation for the Great Parks half marathon. Their muscles are starting to wonder what's hit them! This is my 'Pay it Forward' moment this week. I have asked them, rather than paying me, to make a donation to MIND - the charity they are running the half marathon for. MIND can then use the money to help many individuals with mental health issues. And the ripple goes on! Don't forget to watch out for my new advert in Sussex Living this month. I have held my breath, shed tears of joy and sadness and smiled so much I think I could have lit up a Stadium. Well how to top that, we are all wondering now? Let’s allow that feeling to spill up over the top of the stadium and engulf the whole UK. We proved that working together is easy. Foreigners to our shores have commented on the friendliness and ease of their visit to this great Isle. So how can I follow that! My plan for the year is to make a difference, if I make a positive difference to just one person’s life; I will have succeeded. If I can help more, then everyone I see is just as important as the first. What’s planned for this week? Firstly just remembering to take a breath and enjoy breathing in the pride of the nation. These individuals we’ve watched jump, swim, run and shoot are just like YOU or I! They have trained their bodies and minds to overcome obstacles and setbacks by using these challenges to fuel their motivation to succeed. Changing yourself from the inside may not always be easy without a guiding hand. Hypnotherapy acts as that guiding hand, it reminds you, you’ve done it before and you can do it again. It helps you to grab that favourite memory you’d forgotten about from your past and helps you put it in your pocket for a rainy day. So that’s what I’ve got planned for the week. I’m going to help some individuals find that forgotten memory and store it for that rainy day in the future. It’s been a great mixture of Hypnotherapy, Personal Training, and Sports Massage. I’ve had a steady stream of new clients throughout July that has kept me from sunbathing too much (or was that the lack of sun!). I’m just finished working with Glamour magazine, taking them through a 7 week Matt Roberts ‘Training with You’ programme. On the final week Matt Roberts joined us in Berkeley Square for circuits and the photo shoot. I will miss going up to there on a Tuesday evening and working with such a highly motivated team. Glamour magazine are running the Great Parks Run in Oct for MIND, please sponsor them here http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=GLAMOUR&isTeam=true Harley Street is really starting to pick up now as my profile page is up on the Harley Street Therapy Centres website here http://www.harleystreettherapycentre.co.uk/83/BeckyWells.html. I’m looking forward to meeting new clients up there this week. I had my first international client this week and still have ambitions to take my skills abroad. What’s planned for this week? Monday I’m off to Tulley’s Farm to attempt not to get lost in the Angry Birds maze. So if you don’t see any more blogs, send a search party. Tuesday I have an audition for a TV programme but it’s top secret and you’ll just have to wait and see what that’s all about. The rest of the week is filled with appointments, and maybe the odd time watching an hour or six of the Olympics! So you’ve got your bikinis, suntan cream and suitcase. Have you booked your ‘Training with You’ programme with me to get your beach body or set up a time to have hypnotherapy to build up that confidence or lose weight with the power of your subconscious? If not why not, give me a call, I promise I do not have a swinging pendulum or swirling eyes!!
