How important do you think water is?
We can live without food for more than a month, but did you know no one can stay alive for more than about a week without water. I think that tells you just how important it is. All living things need water for their bodies to function. When you take in food, water helps to dissolve it and, along with certain chemicals in your body, it turns this food into energy for you to grow. These chemicals can work only in water. Water carried waste material out of your body as well. We lose water as you breathe and sweat. According to scientific research we are made up of around 65% water. How many times have you suddenly realised how thirsty you are, this is one of our bodies line of defences in warning up to drink. Drinking a glass of water 20 mins before your dinner can help us to eat less and feel fuller. Studies have found that some teas may help with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss; lower cholesterol; and bring about mental alertness. What about teas, coffee and juices etc. I am lucky enough to have an amazing tea room called ‘fork to feast’ situated in Miss Mabel's Magnificent Emporium in Burgess Hill. You can visit their website at http://www.forktofeast.co.uk/index.php or follow them on twitter @forktofeast. Great little tea room to catch up with friends whilst refreshing your body. I wonder how many of you have fish each and every week? Do you buy it from the supermarket or fresh off the boat from the sea?
Last week I was visiting Forest Row and stumbled across Veasey and Sons fishmongers http://www.veaseyandsons.webs.com. Full of fish caught fresh off the coast of Eastbourne in the morning. So I decided to try the tuna steak, and I must say I wasn’t disappointed. The fish was so fresh I could have imagined I’d just pulled it out of the ocean. It was probably the tenderest tuna I have ever tasted. I do know that tuna is not from the UK but I was fortunate enough to see it freshly caught when in Mauritius earlier in the year. They were Sussex Food and Drink award winners for 2012/13, so I think that tells you just how great their food is. I’ll be going back for more. So why is fish good for you? It contains something called Omega-3 fatty acids, which help in lowering blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, boost immunity and improve arthritis symptoms. They are currently researching if it improves children’s learning ability . Eating one to two servings a week of fish, particularly fish that's rich in omega-3 fatty acids, appears to reduce the risk of heart disease, particularly sudden cardiac death. Fatty fish, such as salmon, herring and maybe to a lesser extent tuna, contain the higher level of omega-3 fatty acids and therefore probably offer the most benefit, but many types of seafood contain small amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids. At this rate I might even have to make it a Salmon Saturday. So why not pull up your anchor and set sail for Veasey and Sons in Forest Row. I am pretty sure you won’t be disappointed with your catch. It’s amazing, not only the colours that the natural world produces, but the health benefits some can have for our body.
How many of you cook your vegetable to within an inch of their life, or know someone who does? Did you know by leaving your vegetables crispy, your body will burn off more calories as it breaks the food down. Mushy vegetables are already well on their way to being broken back down into their sugary form that our body needs to fuel us. Also look at fruit and vegetables that are in season. In the UK fruit and vegetables such as french beans, apricots, cherries, cucumber, rocket, tomato and watercress are all freshly available this time of year. Why not grow your own in a small trough or herbs in a flowerpot on a window. Try fresh salads for lunch. I know in East Grinstead the New York Coffee Shop are currently selling the most mouthwateringly fresh salads, created by the staff on a daily basis. You can visit their website www.newyorkcoffeeclub.co.uk/ or pop down to their cafe in Brighton. The smoothies are pretty amazing too, I have tested them several times, just to make sure obviously. Also who could resist those amazing smiles from the staff. So see how much better you feel and how much more energy you have by using nature’s shopping list, I challenge you. Let me know about other foods and how their health benefits have helped you. Or are you up and out the door before the alarm goes off, raring to go? I was back to the office today, catching up with appointments I had to postpone before my holiday. Loved catching up with all they’ve been up to and, like a proud Mum, listening to all their achievements so far. I am lucky enough to have a job I love, and most importantly I get to feel proud when I make a positive difference to someone’s life. Have you ever wanted to change careers maybe, become that Lion keeper or boat maker… so many careers are there for the taking. I use hypnotherapy to build up individuals’ self esteem, confidence and even interview confidence. If you feel it’s time for a change and feel you are missing that certain factor to achieve it, just give me a call and I’ll help you get the ball rolling. What it showed was the rallying around of communities in appalling conditions. I watched the antics on Facebook and Twitter develop throughout the night and by late evening when people had been stuck on the Motorway and A roads for several hours, the locals rallied together, even though they did not know each other, to put together efforts to get provisions to the stranded. It reminded me of stories my Nan still tells me of families and neighbours looking after each other. I imagine for those of you reading this that were born in the 80’s or before you can remember the neighbours all knowing each other and stopping to share the time of day. I love the summer, where neighbours appear and conversations continue over the fence. Use the social media to keep in contact, but more importantly don’t forget to go and have a coffee with friends, neighbours and family occasionally. Need that confidence to be able to go out and talk to the neighbours? Then hypnotherapy may help. Becky www.beckywells.com 07801 941949 becky@beckywells.com I may be a bit of clown but being funny has it serious points. Have you ever seen the film ‘Patch Adams’, the Doctor who helped people with laughter? If you haven’t, I highly recommend it. It’s based on a true story and the real Patch Adams is still going strong and heads up the Gesundheit Institute in the USA Google it, it’s an amazing place and a really inspirational concept. In every job I’ve done, I always try to bring a sense of humour and by bringing people together with humour; you find that any job can be fun. I remember a version of Thriller reinacted down a hospital corridor in my previous job and God only knows the number of outfits I’ve changed into whilst teaching Aqua. I will continue to try and raise a smile and bring people together because that is what I do. Feel free to join me if you dare, who knows one day I might get to visit the Gesundheit Institute. I’m sure I’ll fit in rather well there, don’t you? Becky www.BeckyWells.com 07801 941949 becky@beckywells.com After seeing a couple of clients today, it reminded me why I think I am good at what I do. With all my clients, whether they are hypnotherapy, Personal Training or sports massage clients, I try to put myself in their shoes, so to speak. No I don’t have some strange foot fetish before you start to wonder, I mean in the metaphorical sense. Let’s take, for example, a highly skilled executive that comes to see me. When I first met him he came across as bold, confident and sometimes quite abrupt. What I might find underneath is an unconfident introvert inside an extrovert shell. What I try to do with my skills is unravel the layers of protection that have been built up, a bit like an onion with its outer layer thickened by the environment. I help take the layers off one by one until I reach the centre, then, and almost as important, I help them to use those layers to make something even better. So if you would like a hand unpeeling that onion, I have the utensils to give you a hand. I’ll even give you a tissue if it makes your eyes water. As we know teardrops are made of 1% water What did you want to be when you were younger? Did you have ambitions to be an astronaut or the next member of the Beatles, Bros or the Spice Girls? I always wanted to be in the Police but, due to a back injury, that never happened. If I could have had any job in the world I would probably have chosen to be a vet working with wild exotic animals, or a forensic pathologist. Both very different jobs you may think. The connection between them is about solving a mystery through facts and links because you cannot ask the subject any questions. I would say I have a good intuition for underlying problems. Most of the massage clients I treat know I have probably already figured out where to massage before they’ve told me the sore spot. And I’ve probably found several other places as well. It’s the same with hypnotherapy and counselling skills. It’s about picking up on those facts and feelings between the words, which usually helps me to solve problems. So if you didn’t get to do your dream job there is often an opportunity to get involved as a volunteer. If you need a boost to make that phone call or write that email, you only have to book in for a session with me to make that start. Who knows? The next time you look at my blog, you may be looking back saying ‘I did it’. Shut your eyes now and just imagine yourself doing whatever it is you’d like to do, just for 5 minutes. Have a great week. I am even wearing a dress, as I thought I wouldn’t get away with calling jeans and a polo shirt, smart. So I have a black dress and black shoes with no heels to save the embarrassment of breaking my neck, trying to wear heels. It’s great to get dressed up and I love to meet new people, you find out the most amazing things about individuals sometimes. Who knows what stories I will come back with. Going out with friends doesn’t have to be expensive; it can be as simple as packing a picnic and heading to a local park. Fresh air, yes I do mean even in the cold weather (that’s what coats, hats and gloves were invented for). Your own favourite foods and friends are a perfect ingredients for fun. Now I can’t teach you to dance, but I can help to take you in a positive direction if your confidence prevents you from suggesting such as event. In Sussex we have the most amazing countryside, Winnie the Pooh country is just on our doorstep, in the form of the Ashdown Forest. A magic place which if you take a book along allows you to feel like you’re part of the story. Unleash the world around you and give me a call. I’m just off to pin Eyeore's tail back on again.
